Amber Lerman began her training with Valerie Barsky at Ballet Russe School in Skokie, Illinois. She performed lead roles in Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, Cinderella and Swan Lake. She also studied flamenco for 10 years at Ballet Russe performing soloist and group pieces in various local cultural festivals. In addition to performing, she taught pre-ballet, intermediate ballet and intermediate character/flamenco classes. For her final two years at Ballet Russe School she held the title of assistant artistic director.
Amber was selected to perform in the children’s cast of the Joffrey Ballet’s Nutcracker. She was also given the opportunity to perform in The Nutcracker with the Moscow Ballet as well as perform excerpts of this production on WGN news. In preparation for this performance she worked with Altin J. Naska at Southport Performing Arts Conservatory. She spent her summers training at the Joffrey Ballet Academy of Dance in Chicago, where she studied with Alexei Kremnev, Anna Reznik, Willy Shives, Ronn Stewart, Charthel Arthur and various others. She attended the Ruffo-Cholewa workshop at Butler University where she performed excerpts from La Bayadere, Don Quixote, Le Corsaire and Frescos. She also attended Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s Summer Intensive where she worked with Glenn Edgerton, Terence Marling, Meredith Dincolo, Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell and Lucas Crandall. Here she performed works including Quintett choreographed by William Forsythe, Bonobo by Penny Saunders, and Pacopepepluto by Alejandro Cerrudo.
Amber continued her education at Butler University on a partial scholarship where she worked with Susan McGuire, Derek Reid, Patrick Hinson, Stephan Laurent, Marek Cholewa, Cynthia Pratt and Michelle Jarvis. She performed soloist and corps roles in The Nutcracker, Giselle, Cinderella, Swan Lake, Midwinter Dance Festival, Student Choreographer’s Showcase, Senior Choreographer’s Showcase and Artsfest. She performed in Streamlines, a project supported by the National Science Foundation and has also worked with guest choreographer Leslie Telford creating a role in Anamnesis. Amber has traveled to Poland, Austria, Slovakia and Czech Republic where she performed and trained at the Roman Turczynowicz National School of Ballet in Warsaw, the Fundacja Edukacji Atystycznej in Krakow, the Olga Slawska-Lipczynska National School of Ballet in Poznan, the Eva Jaczova National Dance Conservatory in Bratislava, and the Department of Dance at the National Conservatory in Prague. She graduated from Butler University receiving a BFA in dance performance. Amber joined Tampa Ballet Theatre as an apprentice in 2017 and was promoted to company member in 2018.
